You are standing in the middle of a DIY store. Before you are two laminate floors with exactly the same colors, but a huge gap in their prices. Why is one sold for twice the price of the other? The secret is not in the design, but hidden in that tiny "AC" code on the back of the package.

Wear Class: The Thickness of Your Armor
AC (Abrasion Class) is the resistance level of the protective layer on top of the flooring against scratching and wear.
- AC3 (Class 31): It is only for low-traffic areas like bedrooms, where people walk in slippers. Buying this class for a living room or hallway is throwing your money away; whitening (wear) under sofa legs will start within two years.
- AC4 (Class 32): It is the gold standard for every area of the house (Kitchen, living room, hallway). It resists high heels, pet claws, or heavy furniture friction for years.
- AC5 (Class 33): It is for offices, stores, and heavy-traffic commercial spaces. For home use, it is a literally "bulletproof" luxury.
Thickness: Sound or Durability?
The thickness of laminate flooring (8mm, 10mm, 12mm) does not prevent scratching. There is a very common misconception here. Thickness affects two things:
- 1Acoustics (Sound insulation): You know that plasticky clicking sound from the floor when walking on thin parquet. On a 12mm parquet, you get that solid, elite sound of real solid wood when you step.
- 2Height tolerance: Thick parquet better tolerates minor subfloor imperfections. Especially in installations over ceramic, prefer 12mm.
HDF Density: The Secret Hidden on the Back of the Package
There is another value on the back of the package that is often overlooked: HDF density. This is expressed in kg/m³. An HDF core with 850+ kg/m³ density is much more resistant to impact and moisture. In budget products, this value drops below 700-750.
Bevel and Surface Texture: Aesthetic Permanence
If you have the budget, always opt for beveled (V-Groove or U-Groove) and high-thickness products. Bevels complete the whole look of separate planks and make the floor look more realistic. Surface texture (Embossed In Register — EIR technology) creates a physical relief texture that exactly matches the printed wood grain; when you touch it, you feel real wood.
The floor is the signature of the space, don't sign it weakly.
